Single Guys, get it ready!

Earlier this month, I made a post for married men to encourage them to consider cleaning as part of their foreplay. I had a lot of fun with that one and though Valentine’s day is over, I want to keep the Valentine’s theme for February and target the single guys… that’s right… you’re not of the hook.

Keeping your bachelor pad in ship shape is just as important for a single guy trying to attract as mate as it is for a married guy trying to hang onto his mate.

No woman worth dating is looking to become someone’s Mom or slave (unless of course it’s just for pretend… but for the sake of this entry, let’s put fun and games aside).

Many women believe that their space is a reflection of who they are. A clean space says a lot about character, personality, value systems, and even expectations. Don’t shoot me guys, I’m just a messenger. We women take time to create and decorate spaces that make us feel at home, rested, relaxed, inspired, and set a tone for our guests.

If you want to attract women, it would do you good to think about these things from the standpoint of a woman.

I am NOT suggesting or implying your home must be expertly decorated or even completely immaculate in order to be pleasing to a woman. I am saying that some cleanliness and organization will go a lot way to not only get her in the door, but keep her there and wanting more!

Men do not always notice the dust layer (that you could draw pictures in), the cobwebs in the corners, the debris on the carpet (if you’ve got carpet debris, you’re not doing it right), and the food stuck to the countertops (not an appetizing place to cook let alone eat at).

When a woman walks into a filthy house, the last thing she is going to want to do is sit down because she’s going to wonder what is going to be stuck on her clothes or in her hair when she gets back up.

If you’ve prepared a meal for her and she sees crumbs, stuck on food, and dried liquid stains on your countertops and table, she is going to wonder if any of that detriment found it’s way into the recipe. She may even want to end the date early because she came prepared for a meal and couldn’t stomach what you’ve put together because the ambiance was so off putting.

Remember guys, we sit down to go to the bathroom… but I can’t tell you how many bachelor bathrooms I’ve used that made me feel like I was at a Shell station. If you do not regularly clean and flush your toilet, you will have urine residue, pubic hair, and lord knows what else that will be very off putting to the woman you long to impress. There is nothing that feels less sexy than having to squat or line the seat with a bunch of toilet paper before feeling comfortable enough to relieve yourself while visiting someone’s home.

Lastly, stay on top of your laundry and get a candle. Sheets and pillow cases need to be washed once a week because as you sleep, you shed dead skin and sweat. That sweat breeds bacteria. Now I’m not condoning or suggesting you should go there, but I will say that no girl is going to want to go horizontal on a set of sheets that haven’t been washed for two months… way to make her feel cheap! If you do expect for there to even be a 2% chance of a woman encountering your sheets, they need to be washed and the bed needs to be made up (there is NOTHING like sliding into a freshly made bed at the end of a long day). Don’t say that you learned any of this from me though!

When you take the time to clean, you communicate value because it says that you value yourself enough to be responsible and you value your guests enough to consider their experience in visiting your home.

If you really want to make a strong impression, make cleaning a priority!

Now I know that a lot of guys and girls don’t want to spend their limited free time cleaning. I get it. I live to play and it can be very challenging for me to feel motivated to cook, clean, and do errands after a long day (or week) of work. I know though that I am going to feel so relaxed and I will have the capacity to have more fun if I am in a clean and organized space because I won’t be distracted by chores or disgusted by filth.
