Part Four: Graduation Transitions

In our last post, I discussed some goals that I had in college and how I achieved them.

In this post, I would like to talk about how these choices I made in college blessed my life post graduation and how they have shifted as I have started my career.

In college, I didn’t think it was possible to get any busier. The truth is, it wasn’t. I went so hard in college, not partying but just living life. I worked full time and went to school full time. I kept balanced, I made great grades, I was fit, had many friends, and generally enjoyed life…. it’s funny because I remember being stressed out, but I truly treasure the memories of that season.

I learned to honor myself through taking good care of myself. I was not taken care of when I was in junior high/high school. Due to tragic circumstances, I was left to raise myself in many ways. It was so hard and painful. In college, I was emotionally developed enough to care for myself and honor myself while working hard to achieve a fulfilling goal.

I took classes that I am still amazed I passed. I learned to study (I never had to before my second year of college). I learned to date. I learned to pay bills and live independently.

Life didn’t get busier, but the grind of life became more challenging after college. Two years after I graduated, I remember the boredom of life truly setting in. I felt restless and frustrated because I wasn’t sure what I wanted out of life. I had been so focused on simply surviving college and graduating. I always thought the next step would be to start a family. That step never came for me…so I had to learn to set alternative goals within my control to achieve.

Because I had taken the time to nurture my heart through goals, planning, and disciplining myself to achieve them, I knew how to solve the frustrations I faced posed college when the boredom hit and I wasn’t overwhelmed to do it and to do it well.

For me, the mark of a successful life is one lived fulfilled.

I still know adults who do not know how to organize there time. They don’t cook, clean, or make time for friends. They don’t have the determination or fortification to find alternative routes to achieve their goals and dreams. We all get stuck, but let’s not stay stuck!

Even if you’re 75 years old, it’s not too late to continue to learn and grow. I think remembering that is one of the greatest gifts a person can realize in their lives. We are always growing and developing in one way or another. Discipline and structure give us the tension that creates traction… and that traction can lead to beautiful places if we allow it to.

I hope that you have enjoyed this “Back to college” series! Keep checking back each months for blog posts on new topics… you can only write and read so much about cleaning… am I

right or am I right?
